Daren Rickard’s Testimony

I was a trouble maker as an adolescent, going to friends CCD classes just to harass the teacher. I lied to my parents about why I went and what I was learning. I heard the teachers’ Bible lessons from my home church, but I had no action toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I was rejecting God and being disobedient.

As a freshman in High School at age 14, a senior shared his faith with me. I still remember his words of, “You have so much more to offer others.” This is when God occupied my heart and mind. I started attending Young Life, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and church. I was reading and studying the Bible. I started acting upon God’s Word, and I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. I became more humble and caring toward others. I still have plenty of rough edges in which to continue to work. As God works on me daily, I am trying to give myself to Him.

Since then, God has extended his agape love, grace and mercy to me daily. God has protected me from many potentially fatal accidents. Why? What purpose have I not fulfilled for Him on this earth? (Eph. 2:10)

He has given me a wife who loves the Lord and two children, even at Abraham’s age! God does have a plan and purpose for me. Through a sleepless night, He gave me a vision of a family camp providing recreation and spiritual growth to the community. I continue to pray about where and when God will use me in this ministry.

In November, 2007, after a near fatal accident, I felt more strongly than ever to pursue what God’s will is for this family camp ministry. We have established a Board of Directors to further research and pray for God’s leading in His work for us. At this point, we feel confirmed to focus on marriages and the family unit. There are still many questions, but we feel assured that God will provide in all ways to build this camp either in the near or distant future.
